Tell us about yourself and your research interests:
I trained as a physician in El Salvador, afterwards my career path shifted toward research after collaborating with the Microbiology Department at Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado Medical School in El Salvador, igniting a deep interest in the infectious diseases and immunology field. This passion led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Microbiology and Immunology through the Fulbright Scholarship at Loyola University Chicago, under the supervision of my mentor Dr. Yee Ling Wu. My research investigated how microbial products modulate the IgE response In-vitro in allergies and asthma; as well as we worked on adapting a tonsil organoid model to translate our findings into a relevant human In-vitro model. After completing my degree, I returned to El Salvador, where I am currently applying my expertise to teach basic immunology and microbiology to the next generation of medical students. My goal is to advance immunology and research capabilities within my country and Central-America region. I am actively seeking collaborative opportunities, focusing on the interactions between microbes and the immune system that can be directly translated into patient care.
