Tell us about yourself and your research interests:
I recently completed my PhD in Medical Biosciences (2024) at the Molecular Biology and Virology Laboratory at UWC. I have a strong foundation in molecular biology, infectious diseases and Immunology, where my PhD work focused on the in vitro production and characterization of nucleocapsid proteins from human coronaviruses NL63 and SARS-COV. Through this research, I developed a comprehensive skillset in various techniques in recombinant protein production, cell culture, immunoblotting, cytokine production, etc. My research interests include understanding the molecular mechanisms of how microbial antigens, nucleic acids, etc. interact with host immune responses in different contexts of infection, with the broader goal of how we can use this knowledge to inform therapeutic interventions and rapid diagnostic platforms for low resource facilities.
